Northwest Peak Scenic Area – Yaak

Northwest Peak Scenic Area (Yaak)
Saturday, August 8 – 8:30 am to ~4:30 pm
Hike to Northwest Peak in Lincoln County to visit whitebark pine and subalpine larch habitats. Chris Reichert and Betty Kuropat, retired Forest Service silviculturists, will lead this moderate 3-to-4-mile round-trip hike. This will be a good time to visit the beautiful Northwest Peak Scenic area, find blooming wildflowers in the subalpine zone, and discuss efforts to conserve whitebark pine.
The drive to the trailhead is about 60 miles (2 hours) from Troy. To carpool from Troy, meet at 8:30 am at the Troy Museum parking area. Or, meet at 9:30 am in the parking area at the junction of Pete Creek Road 338 & Yaak Highway 508.
Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring rain gear, a lunch and plenty of water. To sign up, contact Chris at reichert.chris9@gmail.com or 406-291-8324, or Betty at blueirismt@gmail.com or 406-250-8156.
