Grass ID & appreciation workshop – West Glacier

Tuesday, July 21 – 1:30 pm to 3 pm

Grasses comprise the largest, most wide-spread and economically important plant family worldwide. Mark Majerus spent his career working with grasses.  He authored the book, Forage and Reclamation Grasses of the Northern Great Plains and Rocky Mountains.

The workshop will discuss the morphological characteristics used to distinguish between grass genera and species. Mark will use samples from 60-to-70 different species, and point out the characteristics unique to individual species.  We’ll also discuss the importance of each species for disturbed land restoration, as forage for both wildlife & livestock, and wildlife habitat.
