Native plant landscaping in the Flathead

Besides the information below, the Flathead Chapter encourages you to visit native plant gardens in your area – here’s a list for the Flathead. The articles on the Landscaping page may be helpful.

Paper copies of the articles below are available at Flathead Chapter programs, held at 7 pm on the 3rd Wednesday each month during October, November, & January through April. (Click here for a schedule of events). There’s a $1 charge to cover copying Recommended Species for Native Plant Landscaping in the Flathead.

  • Guidelines for Collecting Native Plants – MNPS discourages digging up native plants, but in some cases, collecting native plants may be justified. These guidelines were developed to help people collect native plants & seeds without damaging native plant populations and communities.
  • Montana Weed Control Association – Website on Montana noxious weeds including photo identification guide and a range of management methods.
  • Firewise Communities – Website with lots of resources and information about protecting your home from wildfire, but not necessarily native-plant specific.
