We should see bitterroot\, and if our stars are aligned\, they’ll be in bloom\, as well as plenty of other wildflowers. \nIt’s a 5-mile round-trip with 1\,000 feet of elevation gain. DESCRIPTION:The 2026 annual membership meeting\, aka “rendezvous\,” will take place on June 26-28\, 2026\, at Homestake Lodge on the Continental Divide.  The lodge is a private inholding on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.  The closest place that looks like a community is Pipestone at the eastern base of the pass — Homestake Pass is the one on I-90 with Butte to the west. \nThere are beds in the lodge for about 20 people\, there was a lodging auction for the yurt & cabins\, there are camping & RV spaces aplenty\, but no RV hookups.  More info to come … \nValley of Flowers chapter is hosting\, & they’ve named it “Botany on the Batholith.”

Habitats include wet meadows\, forested stands\, and alpine scree\, which yield everything from Solomon’s plume and coralroots\, to monument plant and pretty Jacob’s ladder. Enjoy breathtaking views from the ridge and keep an eye out for mountain goats\, marmots and moose. \nThe trail can be steep and rocky in places\, but we won’t be in any hurry! Bring good hiking shoes\, a sack lunch\, and plenty of water. DESCRIPTION:Pulpit Ridge trail #709 – Troy\n\nSaturday\, June 13 – 8:30 am to 5 pm\nModerate hike\, up to 6 miles round trip\, depending on the flora and group’s interests. Trail 709 starts on Road 331 (Rabbit O’Brien) and follows the ridge toward Pulpit Mountain. We’ll see spring flowers\, grassy meadows\, shaded forest\, open soil slopes\, rock scree and stunning views. In this subalpine habitat\, some plants and trees are stunted or low-growing due to the harsh\, windy environment. \nMeet at Watson’s Grocery parking lot in Troy. We hope to see abundant wildflowers and breathtaking views of the Bitterroot Range and Miller Creek Valley. Plan to meet at the top of Pattee Canyon\, on the trailhead for the Sam Braxton trail\, on the south side of the road. From there\, we’ll plan on carpooling to the House of Sky Trailhead in Deer Creek. The trail is steep in areas\, but mostly moderate rolling hills along the ridge. Bring water and a lunch. DESCRIPTION:Rare Flowers and a Grand View – Piquett Divide trailhead\nSaturday\, June 6 – 8 am to 6 pm\nJoin Deborah Goslin\, who surveyed this location in 2018\, and Laura Johnston\, USFS Botanist\, on this adventure in Citizen Science. We will carpool from the Bitterroot National Forest Supervisor’s Office (1801 N First in Hamilton) to Piquett Creek Road #5720\, to the Piquett Divide trailhead (#676)\, southwest of Darby. This is a moderate-to-strenuous\, 3.6-mile-round-trip hike. \nThe trail starts in a mixed conifer forest and gains about 700 feet in 1.3 miles. From there\, we go off trail\, down an open ridge to a meadow filled with balsamroot\, lupine\, and the sensitive Small Onion. \nWe will start hiking by 10 am\, return to the trailhead by 4 pm\, returning to Hamilton by 6 pm. Bring sunscreen\, tick repellent\, food & water\, and dress for the weather. Due to the small trailhead parking area\, only 2 cars will fit\, so only 8 people can sign up.
